Downtown 4th of July Events
Summer officially kicks off with 4th of July in the Park. This annual event sponsored by the City of Coos Bay and the Coos Bay Downtown Association, has been a long-standing tradition. The day starts with the Mayor Firecracker run. The kids’ run is free to all kids and starts at 10 am. The 4k is free to South Coast Running Club members, or a $10 registration fee to become a member. That race starts at 10:20 am or whenever the youngsters are done. Register online at https://southcoastrunningclub.org/mayors-firecracker-run/ or on the day of the race at Mingus Park.
The family-friendly, fun-filled event, to bring the community together, starts at 11 am
around Mingus Park Pond. This year’s event will feature the Boy Scouts’ fundraiser hamburger stand,
Coos Forest Protective Association, with Smokey the Bear, the Coos Bay Fire Department, partnering
with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife with their fishing pond, the Coos County Mounted
Sheriff’s Posse, Front Street Community Bike Works, Coos Bay Public Library, South Coast Head
Start, Furry Friends, Advanced Health, Coos County 4-H h Coos Elderly Services, and the Coos Bay
Police Department. This free event will end at 2 pm.

Other happenings you can take advantage of on the 4th of July. The Coos Bay Pool will have a free swim from 2 pm to 4 pm. The Mingus Park Community Building-Historic WPA Scout Cabin will have an open house from 11 am to 2 pm. Come tour this historic building and get information on the restoration work being done. The Scout cabin is located at 850 West Park Roadway, just up the road from the park. The City of Coos Bay’s annual fireworks celebration’s best viewing will be on the boardwalk downtown
at dusk. Bring your chair and a blanket and enjoy the show!
